I need to get to grips with winter planting as well, the garden looked quite bare this winter... more evergreens I think, and this autumn all the pots plus the hanging baskets are going to be refilled with winter plants, pansies, ivies, anything else the garden centre has....

I still have quite a few gaps around the garden and when the fuschias aren't there its even worse. My perennials are growing, but slowly, so I use containers to fill spaces. Firstly, because I like planting up pots, always have and secondly, because you can move them around (except the alpine garden - last time I shifted that I nearly killed myself!!).
